This Action Roguelite’s Demo Has More Content Than Some Full Games—And Great Goblins Too

In a world where modern life feels increasingly like a nightmare-level dungeon, at least one thing has made a glorious comeback: demos. They're everywhere on Steam these days, like the free cheese samples at your local grocery store, but with more guns. And boy, does SULFUR serve up a spread. This action-packed roguelite features customizable guns, goblins that mean business, and a ridiculously deep RPG equipment system. The kicker? Some players are already sinking dozens of hours into the demo alone.

At the core of SULFUR is good old-fashioned dungeon crawling and build crafting. As you tear through enemies (goblins included), you’ll collect gun upgrades, spell ingredients, and a treasure trove of other gear. The real fun comes in piecing together these components into absurdly creative combinations to maximize your "fun violence" potential.

If you’re one of those people who needs a good reason for the carnage (understandable!), here’s your context: You’ll be outwitting enemies, working through a world filled with dark creatures and sinister forces, all while wielding a playful arsenal of weapons. Whether you’re a guns-blazing maniac or a strategic mastermind, SULFUR lets you choose your playstyle. Want to rush in with an enchanted shotgun or carefully plot your moves with a tricked-out rifle? It’s up to you.

The game’s atmosphere is dripping with dark fantasy vibes, from misty forests to ominous castles. You’ll journey through eerie landscapes, piecing together what exactly went wrong in this world—and more importantly, how you can set it right. If you listen closely (and survive long enough), you might even get some answers.

I stumbled across SULFUR thanks to a random Twazzer post hyping up its roadmap, which includes milestones like “fixing shit” and “guns & magic.” The patch notes even drop rhubarb sauce recipes occasionally. I’m not a fan of rhubarb, but I’m definitely a fan of this game.

Look out for SULFUR when it drops in October! In the meantime, give the demo a whirl—you might find yourself knee-deep in goblins and custom guns for way longer than expected.
