BioWare Unveils PC-Specific Features and Controller Options for Dragon Age: The Veilguard

23/08/2024 Lauren Harris 955

If you're one of those gamers who can't get enough of your ultrawide monitor, BioWare has some exciting news for you. Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the next installment in the beloved RPG series, is set to fully support 21:9 ultrawide monitors. And yes, that includes cinematics too, where you can disable those pesky black bars to get the full panoramic experience. It's just one of the many PC-specific features BioWare has been showcasing.

Panoramic Vistas and PC-Specific Enhancements

Beyond the ultrawide support, Veilguard will bring a suite of features tailored for PC players. The game will offer HDR support, uncapped framerates, and a Field of View (FOV) slider, allowing you to customize your visual experience to the fullest. Ray tracing is also a big deal here, with options ranging from ray-traced reflections to the “Ultra RT” mode, which promises to push even the highest-end rigs to their limits. For those worried about the performance, fear not—there are upscaling options like NVIDIA DLSS 3, FSR 2.2 (which has been specially modified for the game), and XeSS. Additionally, the game supports NVIDIA Reflex and DLSS 3 with frame generation, ensuring that you can tweak the graphics settings to your heart's content.

Customization doesn’t stop there. The Veilguard lets you fine-tune various visual elements, from texture quality to shadow settings, camera effects like motion blur, and even the "hairiness of hair." Essentially, you have all the tools you need to make the game look as beautiful—or as wild—as you like.

Controller Options and Accessibility

The Veilguard isn’t just about high-end graphics and customization; BioWare is also paying attention to how players interact with the game. Expect a range of controller options that cater to different playstyles and accessibility needs. While specific details on the controller setup haven’t been fully revealed, BioWare’s commitment to player comfort and accessibility suggests a robust offering.

Release Date and Final Thoughts

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch on October 31st, and it’s safe to say there’s a lot of anticipation. Personally, I’ve had my doubts about the game, but with all these new details coming out, my excitement is growing. It helps that Mark Darrah, former executive producer of Dragon Age, has returned as a consultant for Veilguard. According to him, this might be the first Dragon Age where "the combat's actually fun." If that’s true, then The Veilguard could very well be a game-changer for the series.

As we get closer to release, BioWare is sure to reveal even more about The Veilguard. But with these PC-specific features and customization options, it’s clear they’re aiming to deliver a top-tier experience for all players, whether you’re on a high-end rig or just excited to dive back into the Dragon Age world.
