Turn Heroes into God-Beast Snacks in this City Builder Inspired by Black & White and Cult of the Lamb

Gold Gold Adventure Gold is a game that gleefully throws every genre it can think of into a blender. Describing itself as a "Cult-of-the-Lamb-lite, Rimworld-lite, Majesty-like mixed with Black & White with a dash of Against the Storm," it clearly wants to be everything all at once. That's a lot to process, and if you're scratching your head after reading that, don't worry. The trailer does a better job of explaining what’s happening—just prepare for a lot of cartoonish decapitations and gruesome fun.

Still a little confused? Let me break it down. In this bizarre mix of reverse RPG, city builder, and pet simulator, you're tasked with building a settlement around a dungeon to attract adventurers. These brave (or foolish) souls will venture into said dungeon, collecting gold, which you then use to feed your god-beast pet—because every city needs one, right?

Adventurers come in all shapes and sizes, from undead warriors to mothmen, all presented as chill, slightly pessimistic 2D anime sprites. You lure them to your town with promises of "gold or glory" and then send them on quests to explore, defend areas, or hunt down monsters. They can battle on their own, or you can step in to help them gather loot and level up. But don’t let them get too strong, because, as the game warns, "each level brings them one step closer to a forbidden evolution." So, you know, watch out for that.

Beyond wrangling adventurers, you’re also managing a medieval fantasy economy based on farming or slaying monsters. But, as the game teases, the heroes might start to shape your town’s future if you're not careful. "Your units have a life of their own," it warns. "They might form parties, build their own structures, or even give each other quests." Basically, don't slack on your evil overlord duties or they might get ideas.

And then there's your lovely god-beast pet, which needs a steady supply of food and attention. You’ll have to raise it, teach it tricks, and discipline it as necessary—otherwise, it might grow too powerful and stop caring about what you want. The game hints that your god-beast could turn into either a trusted companion or an unstoppable force of destruction. There’s also the option to kill two birds with one stone and feed any unruly heroes directly to your pet, which sounds like a win-win.

If you’re looking for a better comparison, imagine you're running Sanctuary from Diablo, managing chaotic dungeon-divers while also babysitting one of the Prime Evils. The game’s mix of cute and grotesque visuals reminds me of the darker magical girl animes, like Madoka Magica, with its blend of charm and horror.

I’m intrigued, to say the least. No release date yet, but you can dive into the wild ride on Steam soon.
